21st Century Learner
At Alawa Primary School, we believe that every child deserves the skills, confidence and mindset to succeed — not just today, but in the future. To achieve this, we focus on developing both
academic and social skills, empowering students to become capable, curious and resilient learners.
Our Approach
A 21st Century Learner at Alawa uses:
- ALLE’s Tools for Learning – Problem Solve, Reflect, Communicate, Collaborate, Persist
- A growth mindset – embracing challenges and learning from mistakes
- A positive attitude towards learning and life
We support this through a range of school-wide initiatives, including our
Teaching and Learning Model, co-constructed success criteria, picture books, Kagan strategies, and the Attitude Train.
ALLE’s Toolbox
Students across the school use the ALLE framework to guide their learning. This shared language helps them talk about their goals, strategies, and achievements in ways that are meaningful and practical.
This work is grounded in research by Carol Dweck and James Anderson, which highlights how mindsets influence learning and growth. By nurturing a growth mindset, we equip students to use ALLE’s Tools effectively in the classroom and beyond.
Watch our ALLE videos to see students explaining these tools in their own words.

Student Voice in Learning
Student-Led Conferences – Held in Terms 1 and 3, students lead conversations with parents and teachers, sharing their learning journey using data and reflections.
Data Conversations – Students regularly set goals, monitor progress and reflect on results, developing ownership of their learning.
Feedback and Feedforward – We focus on three guiding questions:
- Where am I going? (What are my goals?)
- How will I know I’m making progress?
- What do I need to do next?

Our Commitment
At Alawa, we are committed to preparing students as
21st Century Learners — confident, creative and ready for the challenges of tomorrow.
