Investigations
Teaching and Learning
Transition to Year 2
Our Goal
Through Investigations, we aim to provide learning that is engaging, enriching and child-centred. By connecting play with explicit teaching, children not only build strong foundations in literacy and numeracy but also develop the confidence, motivation and self-belief to thrive as lifelong learners.

Year 1 and Year 2 Investigations
Investigations allow children to engage in purposeful, intentionally set up and meaningful experiences. Children have the opportunity of making personal choices, working with and alongside others, learning from each other and having ownership of their learning.
Investigations allow children to develop persistence, resilience, turn taking, a positive sense of self, problem solving, risk taking and independence. Teachers work with the children to set up an engaging and meaningful learning environment connected to their interests and the learning occurring in the classroom.
Teachers set tasks for the reporter and photographer and work closely with one or two focus children during each investigation. These children report their learning and experiences back to the class during reflection.
During Investigations the children are highly motivated and engaged in many experiences to assist them to understand themselves and the world around them. Children often report that Investigations is one of their favourite learning experiences.
