Explicit Teaching

A teacher points at a screen in a classroom, with a student seated nearby.

At Alawa Primary School, we use an explicit approach to teaching — a clear, structured, and evidence-based method proven to support student success. Explicit Teaching means teachers clearly explain what students need to learn, model the process, and guide them through practice before encouraging independent work.

This “I do, We do, You do” model ensures all students understand each concept, build confidence, and develop strong foundations across literacy, numeracy, and other learning areas. By breaking learning into small, achievable steps and providing regular feedback, students experience success and stay motivated to learn.
